I take my responsibilities as a judge very seriously, knowing that I have a duty to be fair to all quilts entered in a show. Each quilt judged is the precious record of a quiltmaker and their creative talents. It is not only my role to identify the best quilts for awards, but it is my goal to provide substantive comments of both praise and constructive criticism for each entrant. I view judging as an educational vehicle to aid in the improvement of skills among quiltmakers. During judging I not only look for quilts which exhibit excellent workmanship and design, but also a personal reflection of the quiltmaker which gives it a unique or unexpected twist.
Services for judging include examination of quilts at your location with comments for each entry. Determination of awards for each category and any special awards as set forth by the sponsoring quilt show. The daily fee also includes assistance with writing category definitions, design of comment sheets, and suggestions for organization of the judging process if needed.
Judging fees are $400.00 per day with reimbursement for all travel and lodging expenses. These expenses include meals, airfare, airport parking, hotel shuttle buses and round trip mileage from Kendallville, IN to the airport. Mileage is based on the current IRS rate at the time of the event. Preferred lodging is in a smoke and pet free environment. Small quilt shows close to Kendallville, IN should inquire about reduced rates.
